2022

Located within the Rangitahi Peninsula in Raglan, this home is part of Jessop Architects’ COOLHOUSE range of low-energy modular designs — proving that compact living doesn’t mean compromising on quality.

Set back from the road, the design maximises sunlight and views while providing shelter from the wind.

Despite the small footprint, generous proportions are achieved through a 2.7m stud height and floor-to-ceiling joinery, creating a seamless connection between indoors and out. The cedar ceiling continues through to the external soffits, further enhancing this flow.

The craftsmanship was faultless. It was a complex architectural build, and despite its simple aesthetic, the amount of structural timber and attention to detail means this home will stand strong for generations. The Hoult Construction team never took shortcuts and clearly take pride in their work.

A key design feature is the rear entertaining area, where uninterrupted sightlines carry right through the house to capture the views beyond.

The exterior is clad in dark-stained cedar fixed with copper nails, giving the home a refined, natural character with subtle detailing.
